AEROSPACE ENGINEER | FALL 2024 - PRESENT
As a member of the Michigan Aeronautical Science Association (MASA), I contributed to the development of aerodynamic components for the largest collegiate liquid rocket ever, building upon lessons from the team's previous vehicle in preparation for its next launch.
Working primarily with the Aerodynamics and Recovery teams, I contributed to the development and refinement of the rocket's fins and nosecone while also coordinating with Structures.
DESIGN & ANALYSIS
I researched and helped refine the existing fin and nosecone designs and performed structural analysis of both components.
A particular design challenge involved the fin-tip geometry, which went through multiple iterations to reduce tip vortices while maintaining required structural performance.
MANUFACTURING & TESTING
I participated in fin manufacturing and assisted with assembly and testing of the fins and nosecone during cold-flow testing. The components successfully met their testing objectives and progressed through the team's Critical Design Review.
OUTCOME
The fin and nosecone designs successfully met their testing objectives and progressed through Critical Design Review, validating the aerodynamic components for continued vehicle integration and testing.
